Ryoan-ji Temple and Rock Garden in Kyoto

Ryoan-ji temple was built in 1450. There was a rock garden in Karesansui style here at this place. The main component in this kind of garden is gravel and rock. The garden is in simple concept to arouse the creativity in yourself when you look at it.


This is a small model of a rock garden.


There were 15 rocks in this rock garden. It is Zen puzzle that you have to look at each rock and think. The way that they placed the rock made it impossible to see all 15 rocks in one spot that you sat in. If you can see all 15 rocks, it means you are a master in Zen. It was very peaceful to sit here by the garden.


This is Kyoto manhole. It looks like Ninja weapon in the middle of a circle.
